Spijkerkwartier has been changing and growing during time and today it is one of the most diverse districts of Arnhem. It is mainly a residential area and life is not boring for residents, because of the cafes, restaurants, theaters, churches, art galleries and gardens which are located in this area.
However, the district has not been like this since the foundation. For example, until 1984 Vitesse, the football club based in Arnhem, used to play their matches in this area. In 2007 the neighborhood has got a new look once some of the houses started to renovate.
Today, it is a beautiful district which is open to all visitors who want to explore the streets of Spijkerkwartier and find some hidden gardens! Yes, there are 9 public gardens hidden in its allies and streets. These gardens are mostly maintained and protected by residents.
We suggest taking a walk in this area and visiting one of the gardens. They are open to public on most days of the week, during the afternoon hours. You can find their location and more information here: www.spijkerkwartier.net/wegwijs/groen.htm

Tomorrow we are going to play 'among us'!. You have to download the 'among us' app (free) and we will talk to each other on zoom! We start at 19:30 and you can find the zoom link in the bio!

About the game:
"Play online or over local WiFi with 4-10 players as you attempt to prep your spaceship for departure, but beware as one will be an impostor bent on killing everyone!

Crewmates can win by completing all tasks or discovering and voting the impostor off the ship.

The Impostor can use sabotage to cause chaos, making for easier kills and better alibis"
This week we recommend an Original Netflix documentary, called 'A life on our planet'.

This documentary was made by David Attenborough and is his legacy and story about life on our planet. He made this documentary because he has witnessed a lot of changes in nature and wildlife during his life - he is now 94 years old. Most of his life, he has been making documentaries and he did a lot of research on nature and wildlife. He has something to show all of us.

The documentary has a lot of beautiful images in it - but it also has a darker side with a lot of pain and emptiness of the natural world. It can be a shocking documentary as it shows that humans have an enormous impact on the earth - and not really a positive one.

It is a documentary that makes you think about how we are living and how we impact the environment. It is also a documentary in which David Attenborough gives his vision on the future and possible solutions for all the problems he names. While there are some writers and journalists who question his observations and solutions, it is still an interesting documentary to watch and talk about.

You can find the documentary on Netflix!

Did you already see it? Or are you going to see it? We are very curious what you think!
We received an invitation from Loesje to organize a fun workshop together. We will not let that opportunity pass us by. Hereby the invitation! ➡️

Loesje is an international organisation that writes texts/posters to influence people in positive ways. You don’t need any writing experience, just a positive attitude!

Coming Monday Loesje is going to organize an online workshop at Arnhem Student Point! We are going to learn how to create texts the way Loesje does! And who knows? Maybe we will create a text that they can publish! Will you join us on zoom, on the 9th of November? We start at 19:30! Please let us know (by sending us a message) if you would like to join! Hope to see you there!

A new cultural night! We have an online event coming up this Tuesday: let’s share about our home countries, stereotypes, favorite places, customs or any other elements you want to mention.
Tomorrow on the 31st of October, the world celebrates Halloween. Differently than normal, because the Halloween dress up parties, trick and treating and other fun stuff, will be less than normal. But that doesn’t mean we can’t give some attention to Halloween.

Halloween, All Hallows, All Souls, Day of the Dead, Day of Remembrance, Dia de los Muertos, Allerzielen… All names for the last days of October and the first days of November. On these days, a lot of people around the world stand still and remember on the ones they have lost. They make room for death and a lot of traditions say that death is closer to us during this period.

So in this moment of inspiration, we give you some examples of how people celebrate this period. Do you celebrate one of these days? Do you have any traditions for Halloween or for remembering your lost ones? We would love to know!

If you ever want to talk about your losses (or anything else), know that you can contact Iris for a one on one conversation. You can email (iris@arnhemstudentpoint.nl) or WhatsApp (+31639709203).
On Saturday I was reading an article in a magazine. It was about redefining and rediscovering yourself. It said that during the last period, since the start of the whole corona crisis actually, people where constantly busy with finding new and other ways to live, to study and to work. A lot of people picked up new hobbies and tried to do things such as meditation and mindfulness to be able to cope with everything that was happening. I also did that: I started walking and at ASP, I started with sharing tips on coping with the crisis, dealing with yourself and with everything that happens to you.

The article I was reading, spoke about new beginnings and that we have changed, compared to the persons who we were in January 2020. And that made me think: are we different people? Did we change ourselves? Or did we forget parts of ourselves in the crisis? Did we forget things, characteristics and hobbies we used to do?

For me, I don’t think I changed – but I did come to the conclusion that I forgot all about some of my hobbies. For example, I love photographing. It is a ‘new’ hobby to me (started it in 2018) and as all hobbies, it takes time to practice and to understand how to do it. During the last 9 months, I just didn’t feel like I had enough time. I did do other things – learned new things, focused on my family and on balancing work and private life - , but I didn’t take the time to focus on my photo’s. So this Sunday, I took my camera out of its bag and started making pictures again. And you know what? It felt like there was time enough, it made me feel happy.

Maybe we have all been very busy in our minds during the corona crisis, maybe we have been so busy with doing things, with rediscovering ourselves, with trying to cope with the uncertainties and anxiety, with learning totally new stuff, that we forgot to look back and focus on the things that made us happy, the things that helped us be who we are.

So I was wondering: is this something that only happened to me? Or did you also ‘forget’ about something? And do you feel different than you did last year, or not?
